Splatoon: The History & Anticipation For The Splatoon 3 Release Date

Since the Splatoon 3 release date the game has continued to be an international best seller. With a fun twist on the classic third person shooter, Nintendo has paved the way to creating a family friendly game, in a predominantly adult genre.

During the 2010’s the most popular gamers were first person shooters. This style of gaming had been sitting at the top of games for years, and began to get predictable and stale. With the release of a game it felt like the same game play with a different gimmick and skin. On top of that, this type of genre tends to not be as family friendly. Gaming giant Nintendo, being a family friendly company, took this as a challenge and began conceptualizing a new, unique, and kid friendly game – Splatoon!

History of Splatoon

The game was first revealed in 2014, Nintendo E3. The trailer for Splatoon was an absolute hit, and became a highly anticipated game for 2015. Originally released for the Wii U the game sold 4.95 copies, and became the sixth-best selling title on the Wii. Two years later in July 2017, Splatoon sequel, Splatoon 2 was released on Nintendo Switch Online. In this game update there were brand-new weapons, gear, stages, modes, and also a new storyline.

Lore of Splatoon

From first glance Splatoon may seem like a game filled with cute jokes, and amazing outfits. But there is so much more to this colorful paradise than meets the eye! As an overview the story mode in the game focuses on paintball-like Turf Wars between Inklings, a squid-human hybrids, and the Octarians. The object is to try and cover the most Turf with colorful weaponized ink.

So, how did these intriguing races evolve? Both groups developed after global warming caused humans to go extinct and sea creatures evolved to take their place. The plot of the games usually involves Octarians attempting to attack an Inkling civilization and the player character putting a stop to it. Although through the game the Octarians are portrayed as evil, the Splatoon lore states that they are actually not inherently bad. And at one point they lived peacefully alongside the Inklings.

The Great Turf War conflict happened a century before the events of the first game. This was the beginning of the two species’ animosity. At the end of the battle the Inklings came out as the victors. The Octarians were forced to leave and find a new land to inhabit. Thus began the battle of the species and the basis on Splatoon!

Splatoon gameplay & how Splatoon 3 release date has changed

The main story of Splatoon starts with the mysterious theft of the great Zapfish, a type of eclectic catfish that powers the city of Inkopolis. Music idols turned investigative broadcasters Callie and Marie are called to investigate the disappearances. Agent 3, a playable character is then sent to Octo Valley to rescue the Great Zapfish and return it to Inkopolis. Not to spoil the ending, but the character restores order and electricity to the Inkling city.

Splatoon 2 follows similar characters as Splatoon 1, using Callie and Marie as a focus point. However, instead of being the lovable duo, in the final Splatfest competition, Splatoon 1 players voted between which Squid Sister they preferred. Marie was chosen, resulting in Callie playing an antagonistic role in the second game. DJ Octavio, an Octarian leader kidnapped and brainwashed Callie into becoming an Octarian minion! Once again, you embark on a thrilling mission to set things right. Rescuing a stolen Great Zapfish (again) and saving Callie from the clutches of the evil Octarian leader.
