We’re coming to the end of 2022. It’s been a busy year and for Nintendo especially, it marks the fifth anniversary of the Nintendo Switch. This year, many staple franchises set the world on fire and we can’t wait to tell you all about them!

Splatoon 3 (September 9, 2022)

The third installment of the popular Splatoon series, this third-person Nintendo shooter has single-player and multiplayer capabilities. The goal of the game is very simple: players can choose to be either a “Inkling” or a “Octoling” and use firearms that discharge coloured ink in order to cover the arena with your color.

Weapons come in a variety of styles and forms, with the majority looking like everyday objects. For instance, Rollers are enormous paint rollers that can cover a lot of ground with ink but they are often only effective at close range.

Chargers resemble sniper rifles and have a high range for sniping opponents work less well for painting the ground. Squid and octopus forms can also be assumed by Inklings and Octolings, respectively.

This form, known as the “swim form,” can swim through ink more quickly than the humanoid forms can move. Weapons have a limited supply of ink ammo, which replenishes faster in swim form than in humanoid form.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land (March 25, 2022)

Kirby is 30 years old, and he hasn’t aged one bit! In fact, we think this Nintendo icon looks even better! Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first mainline game that is in full 3D!

This time, Kirby is questing through the New World in order to save the kidnapped Waddle Dees! As always, Kirby can inhale his enemies and objects in order to gain new powers!

This game also introduces two new abilities never before seen in other games as well as a new ability where Kirby can inhale and control large objects like cars!

If you’re thinking that Kirby might be alone in this adventure, you’re in luck! You and a friend can join forces and rescue the Waddle Dees together! You both can as play as Kirby and his companion, Banana Waddle Dee!

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (October 20, 2022)

A crossover between Mario from Nintendo and the Rabbids from Ubisoft’s Rayman, this game already has three downloadable content expansions planned!

Sparks of Hope’s gameplay is similar to Kingdom Battle, although the Rabbids get complete voiceovers for the first time. Players can expand their character rosters starting from Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and Rabbid Mario to Edge, Rabbid Rosalina, and Bowser.

In this game, players are also responsible for saving the Sparks, each of which has unique abilities that will aid them in combat.

Compared to the first game, level designs are less linear, and the turn-based tactical combat uses a new system that ignores the grid-based layout of the first game. In addition, Mario can now be changed to another character, and enemies can now be encountered outside of turn-based battle. How’s that for content?

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (February 9, 2022)

The latest release in the popular Fire Emblem series, this title is a spin-off of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Set in the same universe of Three Houses but in an alternate timeline, Three Hopes combines the tactical RPG mechanics of the Fire Emblem series with the hack-and-slash gameplay of another Nintendo staple franchise, Dynastic Warriors. This gives players a refreshing new way to enjoy Fire Emblem.

In this game, players control characters from Three Houses along with the player character, Shez.

Players can explore three different storylines and occasionally face off against Byleth, the hero of Three Houses. For those who want a challenging game that also has a classic all-brawn, no-brain feel, this is the game for you!

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (July 29, 2022)

The fourth game of the Xenoblades Chronicles series, this Nintendo game is an action RPG with an open-world to explore. The setting of the game is Aionios, a world where Keves and Agnus, two rival states, wage an ongoing conflict using warriors who have ten-year lifespans.

The plot centers on Noah and his two childhood friends from Keves, Lanz and Eunie, as well as Mio and her fellow soldiers from Agnus, Taion and Sena, who all develop a mysterious power and decide to work together to find safety.

Together, they discover the true nature of their universe and the mystery of their never-ending battle. If you’ve played the previous games, you’ll be happy to find out that this time your active party members have gone up from three to six and one additional Hero!

Not to mention, there are 19 characters for you to recruit, train, and battle with! What are you waiting for?

Pokémon Legends: Arceus (January 28, 2022)

Everyone knows Pokémon, but this was a whole new experience altogether! Combining the turn-based RPG concept from the classic games and adding open-world exploration allowed for players to enjoy the world of Pokémon. So many fans anticipated this feature ever since the first games were released on the Game Boy!

Players explore the ancient Hisui region or, for those that played the Generation IV games, the present-day Sinnoh region. Here, Pokémon research is just beginning and there are many things that people still don’t understand about these creatures.

With the help of your trusty partner Pokémon that can include classics and forms never seen before, you’ll feel like you’re in a whole new (ancient?) world of Pokémon!

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (November 18, 2022)

Ah yes, another Pokémon mainline double release. No doubt that this will be the same, restricted world with-

Oh, it’s not? You’re telling me this is an open-world? For the mainline?
