A Hidden Gem for Ghibli Fans!

Source

If you are a Studio Ghibli fan, there’s a cozy café bakery in Tokyo that you have to visit, Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory. Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory is actually the only bakery in the world with official permission from Studio Ghibli to make confections in the shape of Totoro. The owner is the sister-in-law of famed Studio Ghibli founder/director, Hayao Miyazaki.

This two-story café is a hidden gem on a quiet residential street in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward, without any other stores nearby. That’s why some people think that they’re going the wrong way when they try to find Shirohige’s Cream Puff Factory. The ground floor is the shop and the bakery where they make the sweets (cookies, cakes, etc.). You can buy your Totoro here and take it home! If you’re keen to dine in, the cafe itself, called the Tolo Coffee & Bakery, is on the second floor.

Due to its huge popularity, it’s best to go there in the morning because the Totoro cream puffs sell out quickly! They’re baked only in the morning and once they’re sold out there won’t be anymore made until the next day. There are eight different flavors; however, most of them are seasonal flavors which are around only a few months at a time. Classic Cream and Chocolate are the two flavors that are available all year around! They also sell cookies and cakes!

Don’t forget to take a tour around the bakery! The store is full of Studio Ghibli figures, stuffed animals, drawings and details about Totoro and other characters in the movie. You can even find some autographs and sketches! There are many spots worth being photographed! When you’re ready you can enjoy lunch at the Tolo café upstairs!
