It’s finally the time of year we always look forward to! What about you? Isn’t snuggling up with your favorite warm blanket, a cup of hot chocolate and a good book next to the twinkling Christmas tree just the best feeling? This month we wanted to give you some kawaii friends to snuggle up with in this month’s Sanrio Christmas box!
Every country has its Christmas traditions, in the US and Europe many people like to celebrate Christmas with their families, cook an amazing dinner, open presents together and enjoy being together. The biggest difference is that in Japan is not a family celebration but a romantic one! On Christmas Eve in Japan couples meet in fancy restaurants or… eat Kentucky fried chicken and Christmas cake!
Why Kentucky Fried Chicken? It all started with a marketing campaign in 1974 for special party buckets for Christmas. Nowadays Japanese people order their Kentucky Fried Chicken way in advance because the demand is high! Many Japanese houses don't have ovens to make big Christmas dinners so KFC definitely makes an easy Christmas dinner!
What about the Christmas cake? This tradition started after World War II when Japan was influenced a lot by America and people were craving luxury goods. The light, spongy whipped cream filled Christmas cake is topped with strawberries and is sold at the corner of every street around Christmas time! They sure look cute and delicious! Are there any special Christmas traditions in your country? Let us know in the comments below!
We hope you're also looking forward to the Holidays, perhaps you could try to celebrate the Japanese way and bake your own Christmas Cake!
