Who is Cute: My Melody! 

Who is cute–My Melody! Also known as (マイメロディ, Mai Merodi), also called My Melo (マイメロ Mai Mero), she is a young white rabbit who lives in the magical forest of Mariland. She is kind, sweet, and always ready to have fun with her friends and family. My Melody is easy to recognize as she always wears a pink cover over her ears and has flowers in her hands.

Who is My Melody?

My Melody debuted as Little Red Riding Hood in 1975, so she is always wearing her iconic pink cover. Since her debut, she has become Hello Kitty’s best friend, which is saying something because Hello Kitty has quite a few friends. Together they love to have fun and go on exciting adventures.

Who are My Melody’s friends?

She has a close-knit family whom she cherishes. The cute Me Melody also loves baking with her mother, especially almond pound cake, her favorite treat. Her father is kind and authoritative, serving as a positive role model.

Despite his rowdiness, she adores her brother Rhythm. Her grandmother handcrafted her daily ear cover, which she wears with pride. Even her grandfather shares her love for adventures!

She also has a lot of friends in addition to Hello Kitty! She shares a close bond with Flat, a timid blue mouse, and My Sweet Piano, a pink sheep. While she considers Kuromi, a rabbit, a bit of a rival due to their contrasting fashion choices (My Melody in bright pink and Kuromi in black and hot pink), Flat remains friendly with Kuromi!

When did My Melody make her first TV debut?

My Melody made her first TV appearance in Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater. During that time, she had a slightly different appearance with a pink nose and a flower. Another show, The Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends, established her close friendship with the legendary Sanrio mascot.

However, she doesn’t have a mouth in this show, and her rival, Kuromi, is absent. She has also appeared in the Japanese TV anime Onegai My Melody, which featured a crossover with Sanrio’s Jewelpet characters. 

Overall, she is a soft and adorable character who represents the brighter aspects of the Sanrio universe. The cute My Melody is known for her love of baking cookies and eating cake. She is kind, loving, and always ready for fun.

What other appearances has My Melody made?

My Melody has appeared on more than just TV! She received her very own video game in 2005 with the Nintendo DS’s Onegai My Melody: Yume no Kuni no Daibouken (おねがいマイメロディ～夢の国の大冒険～). Using the Nintendo DS’s microphone feature, players could help guide her through various stages by jumping and avoiding enemies.

In 2007 My Melody was featured in another Nintendo DS game, My Melody Angel Book ~Denshitechou & Enjoy Game~ (マイメロディエンジェルブック～電子手帳＆エンジョイゲーム～). Players could use the game as a daily planner, diary, and calendar. It must have been nice to have My Melody help organize your day from the convenience of your Nintendo DS!

The bestselling Nintendo game Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome Amiibo also features collectibles inspired by My Melody! In the game, the villager Chelsea has clothing and furniture based on the beloved rabbit for players to enjoy!

What other appearances has she had?

As if TV, movies, and video games weren’t enough, My Melody has also been a radio DJ! In 2019 she starred on her radio show on Tokyo FM, “My Melo Therapy” (マイメロセラピー). She received calls from listeners and answered their questions, giving them her advice. A book with this advice debuted in 2022!
