Pompompurin is a golden retriever from Sanrio with a heart of gold. He was born on a sunny day on April 16th. He lives in his sister-owner’s house, where he has his comfy basket in the entrance hall of their home. Pompompurin is easily recognizable by his iconic brown beret that he always wears. Warm, happy, and soft, Pompompurin is a very good boy who deserves all the pets!
Pompompurin’s favorite hobbies include sleeping (which he is VERY good at) and collecting shoes. Some of his favorite shoes to collect are his owner-mother’s sandals and his owner-father’s leather shoes. He also likes to hide shoes, which may or may not be something everyone else likes as much as him.
As a dog, Pompompurin loves hearing someone say, “Let’s go out!” but isn’t a big fan of hearing, “Stay!” He also loves going out and having fun more than sitting inside. He also enjoys soft things and making friends, so we all have much in common with him! Many people love having him around and he has plenty of friends to hang out with!
Pompompurin loves his mother’s cream caramel pudding and cold glasses of milk. Besides eating and sleeping, he enjoys ‘purin aerobics’ and spending time with his friends: Muffin the Hamster, Scone the Mouse, and Custard the Bird. Custard helps him out when the wind blows off Pompompurin’s beret. But most of all, Pompompurin dreams of becoming even more famous, though he’s already well-loved!
Pompompurin has many friends but is incredibly close to his friend, Macaroon. Hello Kitty has even said Pompompurin seems to have the hots for her. But, believe it or not, Pompompurin has a crush on someone you’d never suspect: Snoopy! Yup, THAT Snoopy of Peanuts fame! Hello Kitty even told viewers he likes how slim Snoopy is, which is incredibly adorable!
Pompompurin made his debut in the July 1996 issue of Strawberry News. His original name was supposed to be “Boku, Pudding,” but it was later changed. Like Keroppi, the golden dog was created during an in-house contest at Sanrio. Over time, he became one of the most popular Sanrio characters ever!
A dog character was needed, and Pompompurin emerged as Sanrio’s newest pooch! Since his debut, he was voted “The Most Popular Sanrio Character” in 1997 and then again in 2015 and 2016. That’s no small feat! Way to go, Pompompurin!
On top of that, he also starred in Sanrio’s musical Happiness Land, which toured Asia in 2007. Fittingly enough, for such a good puppy, he was cast as The Knight of Happiness Land, even if he was careless. It was his humor and courageousness that mattered! Who wouldn’t want this cute dog as their knight in shining armor?
He was also in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome Amiibo’s Sanrio card pack! The game features an entire clothing and furniture line inspired by him. While everyone could dress like the golden pup, it’s a tricky feat to be as cute as he is!

Pompompurin inspired an anime character, Alice Zuberg from Sword Art Online, who has a cool armor set designed after him. The blue and gold armor and the little brown beret exude style. While fans can’t play like him, seeing other characters in outfits inspired by him is adorable.
He’s also in the fan-made webcomic Hello Cthulu. He is portrayed as an accidental villain but a nice boy. Even though the webcomic is not an official Sanrio product, fans of Pompompurin can still find him and other characters there (sometimes it’s nice just to make up your own stories!)
If you’re a fan of soft things, taking naps, and eating yummy pudding, Pompompurin is perfect for you! He’s a soft, cute puppy who loves everything we do, making him fun. Hanging out with him would be a relaxing day full of playing, eating, and napping somewhere lovely.
Who wouldn’t like doing that? Is Pompompurin your favorite Sanrio character? What about him do you love so much? Is it his love for soft things and napping or his favorite foods? Let us know in the comments if he is and what you love so much about him!
