Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku

True to its name, WotakoI: Love is Hard for Otaku tells what happens when two otaku meet and fall in love. Narumi Momose is an office worker who loves fujoshi, or manga series that feature romantic relationships between two men. Hirotaka Nifuji is a company man who loves video games.

When they meet, it would seem like a match made in heaven, but the two learn quickly that real-life relationships require far more work than manga and games let on. Wotakoi is another series that began on Pixiv before taking off as a manga series that eventually spawned an anime.

Yuki Itose is a young girl who was born with congenital hearing loss. She’s learned sign language, and after attending a special school for the hearing impaired, she enrolled in a public university when she left high school. Her life remained the same until she met a young man who helped translate a foreign language for her. 

A Sign of Affection follows Yuki’s life as she narrates how she witnesses and views the world as a person with a disability and how it cultivates her romantic relationships. It isn’t often that an anime features a protagonist with such a disability, which makes A Sign of Affection a very positive and inclusive story to enjoy.
