Spooky season is here, and you know what that means: fun Halloween costumes! The most significant time of the year is just around the corner, and we can’t wait. Nights of candy, monster movies, and dressing up in your favorite costumes make Halloween fun!
If there is only one problem with Halloween, it’s figuring out what you should dress up as. Should it be cute and fun or scary and spooky? Should you make it by hand or buy a pre-made outfit? Fear not! With so many incredible possibilities, here are some fabulous outfits to rock this Halloween!
What’s Halloween without a good ghost? Yurei are Japanese ghosts that bear many similarities to the popular concepts of Western ghosts. Yurei are spirits that have remained on Earth due to unresolved desires or unfinished funeral rites. Some yurei are friendly, while others can be violent and angry.
Luckily, dressing up as a yurei is pretty easy! Yurei are known for wearing all-white kimonos and having long black hair. Yurei’s hands hang from their wrists with their arms with their arms stretched out from the elbows. The only tricky part of dressing up as a yurei is concealing your feet since yurei don’t have legs or feet (but wearing a long kimono is a good way of fixing that.) Remember to pale your face a bit, and you’re all set!
Aw yeah, this is what Halloween is for! Magical girls are among the most famous character archetypes in all anime, and there are many to choose from. Spunky, courageous, super cute, magical girls represent the best of us and have some pretty cool outfits, too!
Sailor Moon, Wedding Peach, Tokyo Mew Mew, and Cardcaptor Sakura are only just a few of the magical girl shows that you can dress up as for Halloween. Magical girls wear similar outfits: frilly dresses, stockings, evening gloves, wands, tiaras, and hair bows.
There are many parts to a magical girl outfit, but there are always pre-packaged outfits that include everything you need! Some magical girls look like classic Halloween witches, making them even better to dress up as!

Seriously, who doesn’t love video games? We’ve got Mario, Sonic, Pokemon trainers, Street Fighter characters, Fire Emblem characters, Legend of Zelda characters. We could list more awesome video game characters than we have the space for.
While some characters are incredibly intricate in their designs (cough, Gerudo, cough), there are still countless characters to choose from. Halloween is the time to show your love for them whether they’re super famous or just your favorite.
One of the best parts of dressing up as a video game character is putting your personal touch on your outfit. Gijinka Pokemon cosplays are a great example of adapting a non-human character into a wearable outfit. The only limit is your imagination (but there are also some adorable pre-made outfits for those who don’t have the time to build a cosplay 🙂.) If cosplay construction isn’t your thing, many video game characters have pre-made outfits.
Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro; Studio Ghibli has released some of the most celebrated and beloved animated features ever. Warm and kind but also full of adventure and a little danger, Studio Ghibli’s films contain characters of all kinds that anyone can dress up as! The best part of Studio Ghibli’s characters is that many wear pretty simple outfits, too!
Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service wears a black dress and a red ribbon in her hair and carries her broomstick with her. Ponyo wears a billowy red dress. Pazu from Castle in the Sky wears a plain miner’s outfit with a vest and goggles. No-Face from Spirited Away is a giant black spirit with a painted mask for a face. It’s refreshing to dress up as your favorite Studio Ghibli character and not worry about breaking the bank over your outfit.
