But today, these toothy, fire-breathing creatures are portrayed as more cute than scary, with franchises like How to Train Your Dragon and Dragontails showing dragons as friends to form bonds with. Pokemon is no exception: these 10 dragon-type Pokemon are powerful, but most importantly, they are super adorable, the perfect Pokemon to form a bond with while you train!

1. Dratini

Dratini looks like a baby snake just hatched from the shell. Its huge, sparkling eyes seem to stare straight into your soul. The next step in Dratini’s evolution is a more elegant, but equally cute version of the same design—which resembles a sea-serpent with fins behind its head.

Gible is what you would get if a Pac-Man was mixed with a shark and a dragon. This Pokemon runs around on two squat legs and has two stubby arms to match. Its body is basically a ball, topped with a shark’s dorsal fin, and is shark-grey in color. The round design makes Gible super cute… that is until it opens its giant mouth and gives you a big chomp!

Dragonite is a big orange version of Barney, with a plump body and rounded limbs. Its eyes are what really make it look friendly though. Dragonite’s nature is altruistic, making it even more lovable, as it has been known to save drowning people and sinking ships. This dragon-type Pokemon is more fearsome than it seems though, as it will go on a destructive rampage to protect its environment.

Drampa has a long, serpentine body a mop of white hair, and a white beard, like a Chinese dragon. It appears in areas where children play, to play with and protect them. Its aged appearance and its love of children, make it reminiscent of a lovable grandfather… that is if your grandfather was a dragon. The only times Drampa gets violent, are in defense of the children it cares for. This Pokemon is the perfect combination of cuddly and kind!

Sure a hug from the Goomy might be gooey, but it would be worth it! Goomey looks like a white and purple blob, with two dots for eyes and round green patches on its cheeks. Its silly face could never look fierce, no matter how angry. Although the Goomey seems a little derpy, later it evolves into the strong Goodra, which is equally sweet (and slimy).

6. Dreepy

The dull green and red color scheme is the only creepy part of the Dreepy. It has large yellow eyes and a tiny, lizard-like body. Even cuter is the creatures bond with the next in its evolutionary line. A Dreepy is usually raised by a Drakolak, who keeps the little lizard on its head and constantly cares for it.

7. Noibat

Noibat’s giant ears emit soundwaves to bewilder its opponents. But it might just bewilder you with adorability. Its body comes in shades of purple and black. It also has large, lantern-like yellow eyes.

Axew’s plump body, with short limbs, and round red eyes make it look like a baby dinosaur. It wants to look fierce… but it can’t quite manage, at least not until it evolves into the more imposing Fraxure. It has two tusks jutting from its mouth, which make the shape of an axe, hence its name.
